Raiway and Telespazio Merging?

A possible merger between Raiway (the RAI transmitters' managing company) and Telespazio (the Italian satellite service company) is positively commented by high ranking official of the Italian state radio-tv and the Ministry of Communications.

RAI International on 6195kHz

Better propagation conditions have led RAI to introduce the new frequency 6195 kHz for its Italian broadcasts to the Balkans (06.30-13.00 UTC).

Pope John Paul II is dead

Radio stations all over the world are covering the intense prayer coming from over 100,000 people gathered in the Roman St. Peter's Square, after the Pope John Paul II death, reported at 9.37 PM Local Time (19.37 UTC) on this April 2nd. At Vatican Radio the announcement was read by Fr. Federico Lombardi, Director of the Programmes, at 19.57 UTC in in Italian, English, French and German. Shortly after a Mass was celebrated by the same Fr. Lombardi to honor the Pope.

In Italy all tv and radio channels are reporting from Rome and the Vatican. Programmes have been totally reversed.

New life for Italian MW's may be the surprise of 2005. After the closing down of many RAI frequencies, national networks are showing interest for domestic as well as foreign transmitters.

A survey proposed by the Italian section of this portal is also about to end collecting opinions of our readers about the Medium Wave.

Iranian Radio will be back on SW in Italian, French, English and German as from 31 October 2004.

The station abandoned SW some months ago concentrating its broadcasts on satellite and the internet.

New Investigation about VOM in Malta.

New investigation about Voice of Mediterranean announced in Malta a month after the station closed operations.

VOM used to broadcast in six languages and was a joint-venture of Malta and Lybia governement. A political row in Malta followed the decision of Lybia to leave the station. North African partner apparently owed to the station about 2.5 Million Euro.

No more SW for the Italian service from Tehran

IRIB seemingly left SW and concentrated their Italian service on the Internet and via satellite.
