Final Broadcasts from Japan, Italy still available on the Internet

Broadcasters' web sites are still preserving the final short wave schedule of RAI International and the latest Italian, Swedish and German programmes from Radio Japan, ended on 30 September 2007.

A final, maybe unvoluntary, tribute to decades of international braodcasts.

Serbia and International Broadcasting: A meeting in Belgrade

The Serbian Diaspora Ministry has organized in Belgrade a two-day gathering entitled MEDIA IN THE DIASPORA AND MEDIA FOR THE DIASPORA, International Radio of Serbia reports. Comparisons with the engagement for SW broadcasts in neghboring countries were also discussed. Serbian Radio broadcasts in 11 languages including English and Italian.

German section of Vatican Radio has produced a DVD showing the work of the section and history of the station. A summary film can be downloaded from the site of the section.

RAI to stop broadcasts in Eastern European languages

RAI International may close down its foreign languages broadcasts to Eastern Europe as soon as a new mandate to the Italian public broadcaster will be granted by Governement in Rome.

Fiume / Rijeka a "lost" Radio Land ?

Under the headline "Fiume, radiolandet som nästan var" Swedish DXer Ronny Forslund presented the Adriatic town as a "lost" radio country ("Eter Aktuellt", April 2007). The town is nowadays a regional capital (Rijeka) of Croatia and is the home an historical Italian community. Fiume was a part of Italy for a short period after World War I. American based Galileo Foundation and Italian rotarians promote the restoration of Guglielmo Marconi's mansion in Bologna downtown helping the efforts of Princess Elettra Marconi to preserve the palace, Guglielmo Marconi entrusted to his brother Alfonso, to keep it for his beloved daughter.

Voice of the Mediterranean inquiry

Local press reports Malta's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is discussing about a proposed further investigation about the way the Office of the Auditor General had handled an inquiry into the operation of the Voice of the Mediterranean radio station.

An Italian QSL for Radio Free Asia. Notwithsanding the station does not broadcast in Italian, the ninth QSL card celebrates the XX Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy, scheduled for February, 10-16, 2006.

The Times of Malta (June 1st, 2005) published a letter from Italradio's Luigi Cobisi about the role of international broadcasting from Malta and the former station Voice of the Mediterranean.

Earlier last month two Maltese journalists took position favouring international radio for the Mediterranean country.

Historic Marconi Collection Moves to the University of Oxford

Marconi Corporation plc and The University of Oxford announce an agreement to transfer the historic Marconi Collection to The Bodleian Library and The Museum of the History of Science, both part of the University of Oxford. Marconi has agreed to gift the Collection to the University where it will have a safe and secure future, preserving the integrity of this unique collection. Through the generosity of the Wireless Preservation Society a full time archivist will be appointed to catalogue the Collection over the next three years.

BBC World Service Reporting on Italian Clergy in the Media

In a corresponence with Danish Shortwave Club International member Victor Goonetileke, Sri Lanka, Vatican Radio confirmed the operational schedule of the last remaining 10 kW SW transmitter within the Vatican City walls.
