The Italian Half-Hour (Mezz'Ora Italiana) is now hosted by the new Medium Wave programme of Saarlandischer Rundfunk "Antenne Saar" on 1179 kHz, serving western Germany, north-eastern France, Luxembourg and parts of Belgium.

Radio Tirana remains silent as heavy cuts are announced for the Albanian Radio Television (APRT).

International programmes from Tirana are in danger after shortwave transmitters were forced to close down some weeks ago due to power shortages.

In a press conference in Rome, Card. Sergio Sebastiani, President of the Prefecture for Economical Affairs of the Holy See, commented the Consolidated Financial Statement of the Holy See for the fiscal year 2004. The media still require to be financed as donations and other sources were not sufficient to meet all costs.

Vatican Radio: The first electrosmog sentence

An Italian judge senteced directors of Vatican Radio Card. Tucci and Fr. Borgomeo to 10 days arrest and acquitted a engineer after six years long investigation about alleged electromagnetic pollution from Santa Maria di Galeria transmitting site, north of Rome, the Vatican radio, agencies reported earlier today.

The sentence will be appealed. Under Italian legislation appeal is always permitted and both Vatican Radio directors cannot be arrested until a definitive decision.


RAI Satellite turns digital

As from 29 April RAI International and all RAI radio and TV channels leave the analog channels on the satellite Hot Bird 1.

Broadcasts of all channels including multilingual RAI International programmes to Europe will be available via Hot Bird 6 in digital mode.

FCC officially adopt DRM for HF Broadcasting

The US Federal Communications Commission has modified its rules and regulations in accordance with decisions made at the World Radiocommunications Conference in 2003. Among other things, the Commission has sanctioned the DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) system as the required system for digital broadcasting on shortwave.

In the Italian area only Vatican Radio is actively experimenting DRM.

The “Voice of Switzerland”, which has been broadcasting to listeners around the world for almost 70 years, will fall silent on October 31st, 2004.

The last shortwave transmitter in Sottens, Switzerland is shutting down.

Italian Radio Celebrates 80 Years - An Exhibition in Rome

Starting Sept. 15th, the exhibition "Gli anni della radio" (i.e.: Those Radio Years) will be hosted at the Vittoriano, the white monument celebrating the Italian national unity on the Roman Piazza Venezia, a few steps from the Capitol.
