Towards A New Broadcasting Season

Italian language International broadcasts on short wave will cover about 14.5 hours daily in the new season as from 30 March 2014, counting 29 broadcasts from 9 radio stations.

Ondamedia Broadcast, a Italian Medium Wave low power station in Bologna area, is changing its frequency to 1548 kHz (ex 1512 kHz) as from 31 January 2014.

24 to 26 December 2013: Christmas time celebrations from the Vatican will be covered by a wide use of shortwave frequencies, something comfortable as International broadcasters are reducing SW and MW more and more. But everyone must be reached by the festive message of Christmas.

Voice of Russia. DRM Frequency to survive?

According to a schedule published by German Worldwide DX Club website, the Voice of Russia would still broadcast on shortwave, DRM in Italian. A slight frequency change is planned as from 1 January 2014. Earlier this month the Voice of Russia announced they were to cancel all short-, medium-wave broadcasts to concentrate operations on the Internet.

Radio Tirana Italian Broadcast on 7490 kHz again

Italian programme from Radio Tirana is still aired on 7490 kHz due to technical problems at the short wave transmitter previously choosen for the winter 2013-2014 frequency 6040 kHz.

As from 01.00 UTC on Sunday 27 October, 2013 Italy and many other European nations will go back to CET (UTC+1h). New seasonal schedules will take effect at the same time in most of international broadcasting stations. Italradio first survey of frequency changes at Vatican Radio, Radio Tirana, Radio Romania, Voice of Russia, IRIB, AWR, Voice of Turkey, Radio Cairo, China Radio International.

DAB/DAB+ stations are widening their coverage in Italy. In Rome 34 DAB stations are now available, all continuing also on FM, MW.

On 4 October Pope Francis will visit Assisi (Central Italy) the hometown of the Saint he had adopted the name. Vatican Radio will follow the event also on short wave, starting at 08.15 UTC.

As from 31 March 2013 Italy and Central Europe shift to daylight saving time from UTC+1 hour to UTC+2 hours, a traditional update for short wave frequencies and timings. Italian speaking stations from Romania, Albania, Vatican City, Iran, Egypt, Turkey, China and the AWR new schedules.

The VIII General Congregation of the College of Cardinals has decided the Conclave will begin on Tuesday, 12 March 2013. On Sunday 10 March 2013 Vatican Radio will broadcast a invitation to prayer awaiting for the conclave. The last public Audience of Pope Benedict XVI live on Short-Wave

On 27 February 2013 Pope Benedict XVI will held his last public audience before the end of his mandate on the following day. Vatican Radio will broadcast, live from St. Peter's Square in Rome, the event on short wave. Over 150,000 people expected to attend the audience.

Italian Medium Wave, 32 Stations still on the Air

Italradio researched official Raiway website and checked listeners' observations now releasing a list of medium wave station in Italy. There are 32 station active and at least four more station within the Italian linguistic area.

The Voice of Russia Italian programme leaves shortwaves. A bitter surprise for Italian listeners now forced to tune in medium wave 1548 kHz, unfortunately unsufficient to cover all Italy.

The Voice of Croatia to leave Short Waves on 1 January 2013

As from 1 January 2013 the Voice of Croatia will leave short wave to concentrate operations on the Internet and via satellite, Italian programme included. Some programmes will be aired from Zara (Zadar, 1134 kHz) medium wave station at night.

Voice of Russia: Swiss Relay to be discontinued

On 31 December 2012 the last Italian (as well as German and French) programme will be relayed from Moscow through the antenna in Monte Ceneri, Switzerland, at 17.00 UTC. The historical station was used by Italian Swiss Radio until June 2008 and by the Voice of Russia from 2011 as five years license was granted to the Russian international radio.

Italian experimental, non-commercial, medium wave station Ondamedia Broadcast (1512 kHz) will relay Vatican Radio newscasts in Italian at 13.00 and 18.30 UTC, as from 9 January 2012. The station started co-operating with International broadcasters last year with the Italian programme of Voice of Russia and wish to extend such co-operation with other operators.
