Tunis International Network back to Medium Wave

Listeners report Radio Tunis Chain Internationale, a multi-lingual service from Tunisian Radio, including Italian and English broadcast, is back on Medium Wave 963 kHz. No confirmation has been received until now if the change is to be considered definitive.

Ondamedia Broadcast, a Italian Medium Wave low power station in Bologna area, is changing its frequency to 1548 kHz (ex 1512 kHz) as from 31 January 2014.

On 3 January 1954 RAI, the Italian public broadcasting network, started a regular tv programme. Only a few hours for some thousands viewers but itwas the beginning of a extraordinary story, also for neighboring countries.

RAI MW Stations, a (short) list

A recently published research by Italian Communications Authority (AGCOM) focused on possible developments in medium wave use after most of stations were abondoned by Rai, the nationwide public radio. The document also include annex about MW frequencies allocated to Italy at Geneva Conference in 1975 and the very short list of active RAI stations.

DAB+ Increasing Coverage in Italy

Italian Region Friuli - Venezia Giulia (North East) is the second to be included in the DAB+ network enlargement this year, trasmitter service Raiway confirmed.

Northern Italy, Rome and other areas covering 40 p.c. of Italian population now receive public broadcaster RAI DAB+ network.

Swiss TV "prohibited" for Italian Border Village?

A village by Italian Lago Maggiore, just a few kilomters from Swiss shore of the lake is making headlines after was sued by Swiss Radio & TV for having switched on its own repeaters of Swiss TV programmes. The transmitter has been duly authorized by Italian Communications Ministry but Swiss public tv questions about copyrights limited to Switzerland only.

Malta to host Italian RTV Community Conference 2014

Malta recently took part in the annual conference of Italian Speaking RTV Community in Turin and offered to host the meeting next year. Following the meeting San Marino RTV and Malta PBS have signed an agreement to help co-operation among European micro-states in the frame of European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Radio Tirana Italian Broadcast on 7490 kHz again

Italian programme from Radio Tirana is still aired on 7490 kHz due to technical problems at the short wave transmitter previously choosen for the winter 2013-2014 frequency 6040 kHz.

As from 01.00 UTC on Sunday 27 October, 2013 Italy and many other European nations will go back to CET (UTC+1h). New seasonal schedules will take effect at the same time in most of international broadcasting stations. Italradio first survey of frequency changes at Vatican Radio, Radio Tirana, Radio Romania, Voice of Russia, IRIB, AWR, Voice of Turkey, Radio Cairo, China Radio International.

Radio and TV Capodistria, the popular Italian language stations in Norther Adriatic area, will continue their broadcasts via satellite Hotbird 13° East.

Funds were made available for further 12 months by the Italian Community in Slovenia.

As from 1 January 2014 Italian the Voice of Russia could abandon Italian broadcasts. Eight more languages are affected by plans to reduce broadcasts from Moscow. Protests raising from listeners.

DRM+ Tests in Rome, Vatican Radio released Study

FM Band DRM+ tests carried out by Vatican Radio in December 2011 have been disclosed at DRM technical meeting at ITU HQ in Geneva. Tests verified DRM+ performance in a difficult interference scenario such as the FM VHF band II (103.8 MHz) in Rome.

Marconi at La Spezia, a Virtual Visit to the Navy Museum

La Spezia (Nort-Western Italy) is the first city where Marconi showed a practical use of his invention shortly after he started experimenting at home and in Britain. As early as in July 1897 Marconi worked at La Spezia Italian Navy Base along with military experts to make radio to serve navigation. Most of the objects used in those days are now visible via the Internet.

Dr Adrian Peterson's "Wavescan" (AWR, 21 February 2010) recalls the history of a a light, compact radio transmitter, designed and built specifically for installation in a high flying balloon, later on used in Italy a Voice of America local transmitter by the end of World War II in Syracuse, Bari, Naples and Rome.
