Radio Argentina al Exterior turning 50

The International Service of the Radio Nacional de Argentina celebrates its 50th anniversary on February 12, 2008.

RAE's international service, on the air since 1958 over short wave, has undertaken its uninterrupted task with an aim to introducing Argentina to the rest of the world, the station's website states. Programmes include Italian and English services along with broadcasts in other languages.

Marconi's Palace to be restored in Bologna

American based Galileo Foundation and Italian rotarians promote the restoration of Guglielmo Marconi's mansion in Bologna downtown helping the efforts of Princess Elettra Marconi to preserve the palace, Guglielmo Marconi entrusted to his brother Alfonso, to keep it for his beloved daughter.

Maltese "Sunday Times" (August 6) publishes a letter from Richard Muscat, former Managing director at the Voice of Mediterranean recalling the situation that led to the end of the Lybian-Maltese station in 2003.

Muscat recalls th "station was to be run on the basis of consensus" between the co-founders as they agreed that "Malta and Libya shall contribute equally towards the operation of the station", and both partners "are jointly responsible for its financing, administration and programme content".

A new "Italian" QSL from Radio Free Asia

RFA's Technical Operations Division has announced the release of a new "Italian" QSL card in honor of the Father of Radio, Guglielmo Marconi. The card is scheduled for distribution from July 1 to August 31, 2006.

Swiss Radio 75th Anniversary

About 5% of the Swiss are Italian native-speakers.

Footnote: Italian native-speakers are spread among Italy (Republic of) and neighboring areas in Switzerland (Canton Ticino and parts of Graubunden) Istria and Dalmatia (parts of Slovenia and Croatia) as well as in San Marino (an enclave of Italy). Conventionally the Vatican City (the state providing a territory for the Holy See in Rome) is also a part of the Italian language area.

Historic Marconi Collection Moves to the University of Oxford

Marconi Corporation plc and The University of Oxford announce an agreement to transfer the historic Marconi Collection to The Bodleian Library and The Museum of the History of Science, both part of the University of Oxford. Marconi has agreed to gift the Collection to the University where it will have a safe and secure future, preserving the integrity of this unique collection. Through the generosity of the Wireless Preservation Society a full time archivist will be appointed to catalogue the Collection over the next three years.

Italian Radio Celebrates 80 Years - An Exhibition in Rome

Starting Sept. 15th, the exhibition "Gli anni della radio" (i.e.: Those Radio Years) will be hosted at the Vittoriano, the white monument celebrating the Italian national unity on the Roman Piazza Venezia, a few steps from the Capitol.

No more QSLs from RaiWay

RaiWay does no send QSL card for the RAI home service both in medium wave and FM.

The Control Quality Center is moving its activities to the digital transmissions, and it sound like is no more interested in listeners reception reports.
